Giveaway and Danica Winters on the World of Vampires
Author Danica Winters discusses how the world of vampires sucked her in, causing a short story to evolve into her novel The Vampire’s Hope.
It goes without saying that writing is one of the most important things in my life (it comes in right behind my family and dearest friends). There is nothing like the feeling of finishing the last sentence of a book and thinking: People are going to love this!
Long before the point of loving the book there are a thousand steps that take place to get the book written. In the case of The Vampire’s Hope, I actually wrote the short story over a year ago. I had submitted it to only a few publishers and then decided to hold back on publishing the work. There was something in me that told me to wait—the story and its characters weren’t done with me.
A few months passed and I went back to the short story and realized I had been right to keep it to myself. It needed more…it needed to be expanded and built upon—it needed to be a series. What had started out as a quick short story for the fans turned into a novella that refused to be a single book.
I guess I’m a push-over in that I allow my characters to change my mind and make me do their bidding—but I think that is what makes an author work harder, better, and longer. When we invest in our stories it shines through and resonates with you, the reader. It is my hope that you will get the chance to read The Vampire’s Hope as I know it will make you think a little differently about your everyday life. But I must forewarn you, it will keep you coming back…you will need more! So cuddle up, find a well-lit room and step into the world of the Vampire.
