After the Rain

As far as wind goes, Hurricane Irene was like an asthmatic blowing out birthday candles.  I routinely drive to work in fiercer wind and blizzards have wind that is twice as strong.  But, Irene did bring about more flooding that I’ve seen in quite some time.  Roads by me that have never flooded are now underwater and, while I feel really bad for anyone who had property destroyed, it’s really cool to see the non-damaging flooded sections.  What was once a field with tall reed-like grass is now a swamp.  Creeks have expanded to five times their width and overtaken bridges.  It’s pretty in an eerie way.

This truck is driving up a small hill. When he initially hit the water, it went up to the top of his hood.
