Author Sky Purington on the latest release in her Calum’s Curse Trilogy, whether the series will continue, and her favorite ghost-hunting tv shows.
The Tudor Revival is part of your Calum’s Curse series. Can you tell us a little about the series and how The Tudor Revival fits into it?
It all began hundreds of years ago when Calum, a young man who had inherited magic, decided he could better provide for his family through the use of dark magic. Eventually, he became overly arrogant and abandoned his coven. Furious with his behavior, they cursed him and sent three creatures of the night out into the world to destroy his descendants. Yet Calum was both powerful and clever. Through the use of time-travel, he built and trapped all three creatures in various New England homes. But as all curses have a tendency to do, this one eventually unravels.
Enter three paranormal investigators…Calum’s descendants. Leathan, Devin and Seth never could’ve imagined what Calum’s curse would mean for them. Action-packed, this series will take you on a time-traveling, paranormal romance ride you won’t soon forget. Leathan’s story The Victorian Lure, starts the series then it’s on to Devin’s tale, The Georgian Embrace. Read the grand finale, Seth’s story in, The Tudor Revival.
Do you watch any ghost-hunting tv shows, like (one of my favorites) Paranormal State, as part of your research?
Actually, I have watched several ghost-hunting shows. My favorites include Ghost Hunters with Jason and Grant and Ghost Adventures with Zack, Nick and Aaron. And of course, I enjoy Paranormal State. Yes, all of these shows absolutely helped with my research. I’ve learned quite a bit about the equipment and the best techniques to use when investigating the paranormal.
What was the hardest part of writing The Tudor Revival?
Oddly enough, the hardest part of writing The Tudor Revival was trying to develop not only the hero and heroine but the spirits who were gradually possessing them. Four times the character growth. Now that’s challenging! *grins*
Will the Calum’s Curse series continue after this installment?
I’ve had enough requests from readers that the answer is an excited, “Yes!” The exploits of The Worldwide Paranormal Society will continue.
Do you write in other genres outside of paranormal romance?
I also write time-travel Highlander romance novels. In fact, a few characters from The MacLomain Series made an appearance in my Calum’s Curse Trilogy.
What is your favorite paranormal creature?
Oh, I love a few! But if I have to pick just one I’d have to say the vampire. There’s just something about them.
Do you have a formula for developing your characters?
This might sound strange but I truly try to give them a mind of their own. They get to travel down their own roads. They’re allowed to be flawed, make mistakes and do the opposite of what the reader wants. I’m always pleasantly surprised by not only their unique personalities but their individual growth.
Do you use a pen name?
Yes, Sky would have been my daughter’s name. Purington is my great-grandmother’s maiden name. She was the tea reader and story teller in the family.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
Spending time with my family and traveling. I’m a big believer in the theory that life’s too short. Free time should be used wisely and 100% cherished.
What books are in your to-read pile?
Currently, Fifty Shades of Grey. But it’s been in my to-read pile for a while now. There’s been far more writing than reading lately with a deadline looming.

Seth crossed his arms over his chest. “Are you mad at me about something?”
Alana studied his face for a moment before she said, “I suppose I am.”
“Are you serious?”
He nodded. “Obviously.”
Crossing her arms over her chest, she said, “You died then you haunted me.” She nodded toward the house. “Then you brought all this with you.”
“Ah.” She still maintained that feistiness he enjoyed. Seth grinned. “Yeah, sorry about all that.”
Alana frowned. “You’re not sorry in the least.”
“Then why say that you are?”
“I don’t know. To see you get fired up?”
She inhaled deeply through her nostrils. “I would’ve thought that death would’ve had more of an effect on you, Seth.” Alana pushed away from the rock and walked toward the house.
“What do you mean by that?” He walked after her. “And wouldn’t you rather death didn’t change me?”
Alana stopped so quickly that he nearly walked into her. Face red with anger she pointed a finger at his chest and said, “You needed some adjustments!”
Something about the fire in her eyes and the liquid heat of her tone set off his anger as well. Hell yeah, he needed some adjustments and knew right where to start. Before she knew what hit her, Seth pulled her into his arms.
And made his first adjustment.
