Bree Despain Goes Greek with ‘Into the Dark’

The Rape of Persephone by Bernini

The Dark Divine series may have ended, but Bree Despain is not done writing. According to Publisher’s Weekly, Despain will in the midst of writing a new trilogy called Into the DarkPW describes it as “a reimagining of the Persephone myth, delivered in dueling narratives.” Despain, however, says, “It’s kind of like PERCY JACKSON meets AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER meets BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER meets Bree Despain-style romance.”

An official synopsis has not been released since the book will not release until 2014, but we do know that the character names have been updated to Daphne (in place of Persephone) and Haden (instead of Hades) and we will see the story from both points of view. On the changing POV, Despain said:

These are two very different characters who look at the world in very different ways.  It’s kind of an exploration of destiny vs. choice, love vs. duty, and what it really means to have honor.

Since Persephone is essentially kidnapped and held against her will in the underworld, I’m very curious to see how Despain reimagines the story to make it a romance. I’m definitely looking forward to some action and Greek mythology. What do you think of her new trilogy?
