Interview with Kimberly Kinrade, Author of the ‘Forbidden’ Trilogy

Kimberly Kinrade, author of the Forbidden books and the Three Lost Kids stories, dishes on closing out her trilogy, what she’s been up to under the name Daring Davenport, and her new spin-off trilogy.

Welcome back, Kimberly! I’m excited to talk with you again.

Thank you so much for having me back!

Last time, we spoke about Forbidden Fire, the second book in the Forbidden Trilogy. Now you’re finished with the books. How did it feel to wrap it up?

So good! This last year has been consumed by the Forbidden Trilogy and it’s exciting to know that all the books are finally out there. I’m also a bit sad to see the end of this journey, even though I will be writing more in an expanded version of this world, a few key characters are more retired than others and I’ll miss them.

Fans will be excited to hear that you’re revisiting their Forbidden world! Can you give our readers who are unfamiliar with the series a brief description?

Paranormal teens with unimaginable powers. A secret organization with deadly intentions. When Sam, a girl who reads minds, meets Drake, a boy who controls minds, they discover their lives aren’t what they thought.

Together, they must escape their fate and free their friends, before they lose everyone they love.

You have an omnibus coming out called The Forbidden Trilogy, which puts the entire series under one cover and includes a lot of extras. What was the inspiration for this anthology?

I wanted to give fans a chance to get the whole series at once. I know I like to have all the books in a series before I start reading, so I know I can finish. Especially with this trilogy, which really has to be read in order, I thought it would be fun to have them all together in this way.

Also, this gives readers a chance to get everything at a discounted price. By purchasing the ebook omnibus, you save $5 off the series. Even if you buy Forbidden Mind, then purchase the omnibus, you still save a few dollars off the second two books!

What kinds of extra content are being published?

There’s an extensive Q&A with me at the end, a music playlist for each book based on what music I think best reflects the series, a discussion guide for all the books, IPI Paranormal Profiles of some of the key characters in the books–including pictures of the characters, and some extra content from several of the characters. This includes a special article by Drake and Sam on what’s it’s like to be with someone who can read your mind, a few posts from “Brad’s Blog” where he interviews two of the characters, and a note from Lucy.

How did you gather info for the character profiles? Are they based on notes you made while writing?

Yes, though these are not extensive. These are from the Top Secret offices of IPI headquarters, where they are compiling notes on all paranormals for their records.

Who created the pictures of your characters?

They are stockphotos that my husband, Dmytry Karpov, has manipulated for various online and print promotional opportunities.

The interview helps your readers get to know you a little better, too. Who interviewed you? Can you tell us a little about the experience?

Many of the questions came from fans through a rafflecopter giveaway I did, and I included the most commonly asked questions in general. So I guess I kind of interviewed myself in some ways. Lol

What a fun way to gather questions! You wrote a letter to the readers that is being published in the omnibus. What was the inspiration behind your words?

This ended up being merged with Acknowledgements, since it really was about the journey of writing this series, the support I had from so many amazing people, and what’s coming next for me. So you’ll find that in the Acknowledgements section. I wrote this because the journey from start to finish has been profound. The Forbidden Trilogy launched my career as an author, and my family, friends and fans have been so supportive!

There is an online component to the series, as well. Can you tell us a little about the IPI Academy website?

With all the writing I’ve been doing, this has been neglected, but we have plans to resurrect it. Http:// is a fan-based site that will merge reality and myth, with posts about paranormal activity, articles, paranormal profiles that span more than just my books, and so much more. Fans are treated like recruits or agents and we have some fun plans in the future to make it even more exciting.

Do you plan on revisiting the Forbidden world in the future?

Yes, the Fallen Trilogy, with the launch of Blood of the Fallen next year, will continue the story of Luke and Lucy as they join IPI and start their training at IPI Academy. The series will go in a whole new direction with some unexpected twists! My husband, Dmytry Karpov, and I are co-writing it and we’re very excited!

Are you working on any new projects?

Always! Right now I’m working on Seduced by Innocence, which is a novella coming out in January under my pen name Daring Davenport. It will be a series of novellas published every two months that will ultimately make a lengthy novel by the end of the year.

I’m also writing more Three Lost Kids books. Cupid’s Capture is next up for a January launch, just in time for Valentine’s Day and Dmytry and I are working on Sunrise & Nightfall, a beautiful story that is a prequel to Blood of the Fallen, but takes place in the early 1500s in Venice, Italy and features the backstory of a key character, Andriy Zorin, from Fallen. I think Sunrise & Nightfall may end up being my most favorite book ever.

We’re launching a novella of the book in March, with the full novel coming out in May. Here’s the blurb for it:

He’ll risk everything to save her life.

She’ll sacrifice it all to save his soul.

Danika Star will die soon, her visions have foretold this, and they are never wrong.

Andriy Zorin will live forever, but not without a price.

They never expected to fall in love, especially with each other, but fate had other plans.

To save the woman he loves, Andriy must defy the rulers of his kind and make her immortal.

But even immortals can be killed.

Set during the early Renaissance in Venice, Italy under the threat of the Inquisition, Sunrise & Nightfall is a story about love, death, immortality and the power of redemption.
