A: All 50 States

Welcome to the first installment of 2018’s Blogging from A to Z Challenge. Almost every year I try to complete the challenge. And sometimes I actually succeed.

Why am I starting the month off with All 50 States? Because it is my main travel goal and a definite bucket list item. Before I pick up with any more international travel, I want to visit every state in the US. How many do I have to go? A lot!

Apparently, I only visit coasts… But a trip to Alaska this summer will at least get me out of the continental states and a possible trip to Missouri in the Fall will get me into the middle of the country.

How do I determine where I’ve been? As long as I get out of the car or airport for a specific activity, I count it as having visited. There are a couple of the states on the map I’ve driven through, so I’ve been there, but I wouldn’t count it as having visited. I also don’t count layovers has having “been there.”

Have any recommended trips/places to visit for the states I’m missing? I’d love to hear them!

  1. Hi Jersey Girl,
Great idea to see your own country and explore its depths. I’ve never been to USA but I would like to see the Statue of Liberty, Grand Canyon and I’d also like to try some of the foods…real Southern Fried Chicken.
I’m also participating in the A-Z Challenge. My theme this year is “Letters to Dead Artists”. I’m really enjoying it.
All the best with the challenge.
    xx Rowena

  2. My map is similar to yours being mostly coastal. Chicago, New Orleans, and Milwaukee are some fun places I’ve visited in the “middle.”

  3. I like your plan to visit all states in your country! Often we end up seeing distant places and ignore the amazing places in our home nation. We too are trying to explore new places in India … Good going with your posts 🙂

  4. My husband had visited 49 out of 50. He joined the circus Clyde Beadey when he was 18, and traveled across country several times. He would help put together the rides, and put up the tent. He’s a former flower child – 12 years my senior – and in the 70’s he rode a motorcycle across country once, and hitchhiked across twice. He also did a stint as a merchant marine, and that’s how he visited Alaska & Central America. If we ever get to Hawaii – it’s the nifty fifty. 🙂
