Ever since I read Pride and Prejudice in college, I have been a Jane Austen fan. True, I had seen more of the movies than read her books, but I love them none the less. And, really, I haven’t done too poorly as far as the books go. Four out of six isn’t bad (though I haven’t read her Juvenilia either).
For the celebration of celebration of the 200 year anniversary of her death at my library, I watched a staged radio play of Pride and Predjuice by Raconteur Radio. It was a unique experience that includes theatrical lighting, vintage radio commercials, and a Golden Age radio.
There was also a presentation about the Janeite fandom from the author of Among the Janeites: A Journey through the World of Jane Austen Fandom by Deborah Yaffe. It was during this presentation that I learned about JASNA, the Jane Austen Society of North America. And specifically about their annual meeting that includes a Regency Ball! While I haven’t gone a period dressing event in a while, I may have to do this one. (And it is in Kansas City, MS, which is one of the mid-America states I haven’t been to yet.) But, I guess you will have to wait for next year’s challenge to find out if I went.
